Vladimir Michalek

Vladimir Michalek was born in Mlada Boleslaw, Czech Republic in 1956.
In 1994 directed his first feature length film entitled “Amerika” based on the novel by Franz Kafka.
In 1996 his sophomore feature length directing effort “Zapomenute Svetlo” (“Forgotten Light”) received the Audience and Ecumenical Jury Awards at the 1997 Karlove Vary Film Festival.
In 1998 directed “Je Trzeba Zabit Sekala” (“Sekal Has To Die”) which received the 1999 Czech Lion Award for Best Director.
In 1999 co-directed “Praha Ocima” (“Prague Stories”) followed by the experimental “Andel Exit” (“Angel Exit”) in 2000.
In 2001 directed the critically acclaimed and crowd pleasing “Babi Leto” (“Autumn Spring”) which earned Mr. Michalek his second nomination for the Czech Lion Best Director Award.
